• Initial Tree Survey + Constraints Plan

  We begin with a full site survey to identify trees affected by the proposed development. Each tree is assessed for condition, with removals recommended where necessary, while healthy specimens are incorporated into a Tree Constraints Plan. This plan defines Root Protection Areas, ensuring critical root systems are safeguarded throughout construction.

• Impact Assessment + Preliminary Tree Protection

  After the site layout is confirmed, we carry out an Arboricultural Impact Assessment. This combines our survey data with your proposed design to evaluate how construction may affect retained trees. From this, we prepare a preliminary Tree Protection Plan outlining protective fencing, ground safeguarding, and any specialist construction measures required.

Decay Detection Inspection

• Resistograph Test

  If internal decay or hollowness is suspected, we use the RESI F500SE decay detection drill. This specialist tool penetrates the tree and generates a graph showing wood condition, helping us measure residual wall thickness and accurately assess the extent of decay for a clear understanding of structural integrity.

• PICUS

  PICUS tomography uses sound waves to look inside a tree without cutting into it. Sensors are attached around the trunk and record how quickly sound passes through the wood. Slower readings point to decayed or damaged areas. The results are shown as a clear, coloured diagram of the tree’s interior.

• Static Load Testing

  Static load testing checks how a tree reacts when gentle, controlled force is applied to it. By monitoring movement in the trunk and root system, we can assess stability and predict how the tree would behave in strong winds. It’s an effective way to decide if safety measures are needed.

  A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is a legal protection placed by a Local Planning Authority to prevent unauthorised cutting, pruning, or removal of a tree. Consent must be obtained before carrying out any work.

  If your tree is protected by a TPO, we can guide you through the process from start to finish. Our service includes a detailed inspection of the tree, clear advice on the type of works that are likely to gain approval, and preparation of a specification in line with British Standard 3998 for tree work. This approach ensures your application is robust, practical, and aligned with council requirements.

• Conservation Area

  A conservation area is a designated zone of special historical or environmental interest, where trees are protected to preserve the character of the landscape. Notice must be given before works can proceed.

  Working on trees in a conservation area requires prior notification to the Local Planning Authority. We make this straightforward by handling the full process on your behalf.
